The Government of Canada is committed to ensuring that a high level of Web accessibility is applied uniformly across its websites and Web applications. To meet the Government of Canada commitment to Web accessibility, the Government of Canada has adopted the WCAG 2.0. This standard took effect on August 1, 2011 and was updated March 31, 2013. It replaces Part 2 of the Common Look and Feel 2.0 Standards for the Internet.
Ontario, Canada (Provincial government)
Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, all private and non-profit organizations with 50 or more employees and all public sector organizations will need to make their websites accessible. Beginning January 1, 2014: If you launch a new public website or your existing site undergoes a significant refresh, the site and any of its web content published after January 1, 2012, must conform to the World Wide Web Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level A. Beginning January 1, 2021: All public websites and all web content on those sites published after January 1, 2012, must conform with WCAG 2.0 Level AA, other than providing captions on live videos or audio descriptions for pre-recorded videos.
The Australian Government has endorsed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.0 for all government websites. WCAG 2.0 conformance is required on all websites owned and/or operated by government under any domain. This includes external (public-facing or private) and internal (closed community) sites. That is, conformance is required for all internet, intranet and extranet sites.
